Alan Browne was available to play after being in self-isolation since being deemed a close contact of a Republic of Ireland colleague who had returned a positive Covid-19 test.

North End got medical clearance for Browne to be involved, with him wearing the skipper's armband for the game.

Recent signing Emil Riis was among the substitutes, so too Tom Barkhuizen - available again after serving a one-match suspension.

Cardiff's side featured former PNE left-back Greg Cunningham, the first time the Irishman has faced North End since leaving in a £4m deal in June 2018.

Harry Wilson, who arrived on loan from Liverpool on deadline day, was named on the Bluebirds' bench.
