PNE linked with League One joint-top assist maker this season

Preston North End are reportedly keeping tabs on Wrexham wide man, Ryan Barnett.

The Telegraph suggest that the 25-year-old is also of interest to Stoke City, with both Championship clubs said to be ‘monitoring’ the player’s progress. Barnett is the joint-top assist maker in League One this season, with five to his name.

He was signed by Wrexham in February 2023, from Solihull Moors. Barnett had been there since the summer of 2021, having come through the academy of Shrewsbury Town and made 20 appearances for their first team - before eventually moving on.

The right wing-back has gone on to represent Wrexham 62 times, scoring twice. Barnett has started 11 of the 12 games this campaign, as Phil Parkinson’s side sit second in League One. His contract at the Racecourse Ground runs until 2026.

Speaking about Barnett last month, Parkinson said: “Barney’s got a real appetite for the game. He came back in the summer in really good shape; had a good pre-season and he’s continued that into this season.

“He’s a good example of a player who had had to drop down the leagues - and now he’s worked hard at his game and we’re really pleased with his progress.”
