Preston North End striker David Nugent joins Tranmere Rovers on loan

Nugent, 35, hasn't kicked a ball for North End since July, with him not involved with the squad since pre-season.

This was his second spell at Deepdale and it didn't go to plan.

After making his name in the game with PNE between 2005 and 2007, he returned to the Lilywhites in July 2019 after leaving Derby County.

He made 11 starts and 13 appearances from the bench last season, scoring one goal in the 2-1 home win over Fulham.

Nugent's last appearance came against Derby on July 1 during the restart period.

Tranmere manager Keith Hill told his club's official website: "David is a brilliant signing for the club and I have got to thank the chairman for all the signings we have made this month.

"David's CV is up there with the best. He is going to come in and be competitive. He has the hunger, desire, and determination to help us.

"He wanted to come here, and he is going to help us try to achieve our ambitions this season.

"It shows the club’s ambition. Nugent is out of contract at the end of the season so this loan move effectively brings his second spell with PNE to an end.
