Ben Pringle has joined Grimsby on loan until the end of the season - all but ending his Preston North End career.

The midfielder has been out of favour for the majority of his time at Deepdale and has not played competitively for the Lilywhites since coming on as a second-half sub in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in December 2016.

His move to the League Two club, who former Preston favourite John Welsh joined in the summer, takes him to the end of the three-year contract he signed when arriving from Fulham in the summer of 2016.

The signing was seen as something of a coup but aside from a run of five straight starts in October and November 2016, the 29-year-old has been something of a forgotten man during his time in Lancashire.

In total he has made just 14 appearances for PNE, four of those coming in the League Cup.

Pringle spent the second-half of last season on loan at Oldham as they were relegated from League One.
