The Daily Mirror has claimed that the Ibrox outfit have bid £2m for Johnson who was PNE's top scorer last season with 12 goals.

However, North End sources say no bid has been received.

That is not to say there isn't interest, although £2m wouldn't be anywhere near enough to land the 27-year-old.

Johnson is in the final year of his contract at Deepdale and there are no signs yet of him agreeing a new deal.

He's one of the 'crown jewels' at PNE along with Ben Pearson, Ben Davies and Alan Browne who like Johnson are in the last year of their contracts.

Johnson has been with North End since January 2015, signing from Aston Villa for a bargain £50,000.

In 219 appearances he's scored 43 goals, his move into the No.10 role last season certainly bearing dividends with him scoring a dozen times.

His goals and creativity saw him voted player of the year by both the PNE supporters and his team-mates.
