PNE manager Neil handed the Danish striker his first start in the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium clash and saw him impressively lead the attack.

Both North End goals in the 2-0 win came from the penalty spot, Daniel Johnson and Scott Sinclair netting.

The second of those penalties was won by Riis, clipped by QPR left-back Lee Wallace who also conceded the first - a trip on Sinclair.

Preston North End manager Alex Neil shouts instructions in the 2-0 win over QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium

Neil said: "It was difficult to pick one thing because the performance across the board was good.

"I thought Emil's full debut having not played in this country before was very good, we'd only done a few days work with him.

"He was terrific and gave us exactly what we were looking for which was a good presence at the top end of the pitch, he gave us pace, he gave us legs, he linked the game.

"I thought he caused all ends of problems for them.

Scott Sinclair is congratulated after scoring PNE's second penalty against QPR

"Not taking anything away from the rest of the lads because they were great, but for his first start it was excellent.

"Overall it was a really good performance, a clean sheet was important because we haven't kept enough.

"We needed a win because we'd had a couple of games that have been 1-0,there'd been very little in them."

PNE were without Ben Pearson and Ben Davies through injury but they coped well.

Neil said: "At the moment we are in a little bit of transition if you look at some of the lads who are starting to play more and more games.

"Joe Rafferty I thought was terrific at right-back, Ryan Ledson is playing regularly now in the middle of the pitch.

"Jordan Storey came in and I thought he was excellent - strong and physical.

"Emil has come into the team, Brad Potts was playing.

"We had DJ come in for his first start of the season, I thought they were terrific."
