There is no getting away from just how good their front three players are, though, their statistics shining out for all to see.

Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo have scored 56 of the Bees’ 78 Championship goals between them. Watkins has 24 for the season, Benrahma 17 and Mbeumo 15.

If they do not make the top two, Brentford will be the side to avoid in the play-offs. Preston make the trip to Griffin Park on Wednesday teatime (5pm) and Alex Neil is well aware of the challenge awaiting them.

Looking at Brentford’s freescoring trio, PNE boss Neil said: “When you take them individually they are very good players and collectively they complement each other. You have the Watkins with his power, strength and speed in behind.

“You have Benrahma’s trickery and close control.

“Mbeumo does a bit of both. When he moves in from the side he is dangerous and he can also take you on the outside.”

Brentford have won their last seven games to make them the division’s in-form side.
