Preston North End boss Alex Neil overtaken as bookies' favourite for the Bristol City job

Preston North End manager Alex Neil is no longer the odds-on favourite to fill the Bristol City head coach vacancy.

Last Thursday, Neil was the favourite with many bookmakers for the Ashton Gate job.

Over the weekend his odds drifted slightly due to Paul Cook and Eddie Howe leaving Wigan Athletic and Bournemouth respectively.

Both have had stints since Saturday as favourite, with Cook currently top of the bookies' list.

It might be that Howe takes a break from football after his long spell in charge of Bournemouth, who were relegated from the Premier League last week.

Cook is thought to want a quick return though, which might catch City’s eye.

They sacked Lee Johnson early in July, putting Dean Holden in charge for the last five games of the season.

The Robins are certainly taking their time over an appointment.
