Preston North End have confirmed that after discussions with PNE Online and North End Souls, a percentage of the recent matchworn shirt auction funds will be going towards the Spurr family.

A fund raiser has been set up for the Spurr family after former PNE defender Tommy Spurr revealed that his family have been supporting his son through his cancer battle.

Rio, 3, was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour in April this year and has since undergone weeks of chemotherapy.

He has had surgery to remove his kidney, but will now have to undergo more intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy as a result of the surgery’s findings, meaning his family need to be more available, limiting their ability to work.

Spurr and his wife Chloe are needed by both of their children, as they have another son Rudy who is younger than Rio.

It has made their financial situation increasingly difficult and they are now asking for help to be able to fund themselves through this difficult period for the family.

The football world has already come together to support former Blackburn Rovers, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Fleetwood Town and PNE man Tommy, with ex teammates Jordan Hugill and Ben Pearson both donating to his Go Fund Me page.

Earlier this month PNE put on an auciton fo match worn shirts to raise money to go towards improving the atmosphere at Deepdale after conversations with the fans’ groups involved, a percentage of that money will now go towards the Spurr family. A specific amount cannot be given at this time due to fees that are yet to be sorted from the auctioning of the items.

There will be further fundraising events to help aid the Spurr family which will be announced in due time.
