Preston fan John Roper felt some of the football North End produced in the second half rivalled some of the stuff played by the great Brazilian sides of the past

Two down away from home against a team strongly fancied for promotion, Alex Neil had a job to do in the dressing room.

Whatever the manager said certainly did the trick because North End came out in the second half and for 25 minutes absolutely battered Brentford into submission.

In fact,by the time Sean Maguire made it 4-2 in the 70th minute, the Bees had clearly lost all of their sting and it was the boys from Deepdale who were tasting the honey with four dazzling goals in a blitz of an assault on the Brentford goal.

One or two players who had looked off the pace in the first half certainly came to the fore and in man-of-the-match Scott Sinclair we saw a player who absolutely rolled back the years and dragged North End from probable defeat to set up a fantastic victory.

North End began the match on the front foot, taking the game to Brentford and looked like they were really up for the contest in their all green kit but it was the hosts who took the lead with less than eight minutes on the clock and made it 2-0 shortly before the interval.

North End had a mountain to climb in the second half, but climb that mountain they did and in some style as we came out in the second half like a team possessed.

First to the ball with almost a swagger in our play and the half was only seven minutes old when a corner from the left was headed back by Patrick Bauer and there was Sinclair to fire home. It was Sinclair who brought parity to the scoreline just eight minutes later after a thumping cross from Andrew Hughes.

Most of us were still pinching ourselves when three minutes after the equaliser, Brad Potts found himself in the inside left position and just cut inside to give North End the lead.

It was like watching Brazil, in fact it was better than watching Brazil... We secured the points with a fourth goal 20 minutes from the end through Sean Maguire following a corner. So rumours of North End’s demise seem a little premature after this result and it was certainly a performance that the rest of the division would do well to take note of.

The first half was a little predictable but the second half was sublime in the way North End firstly fought their way back, secondly scored the third and fourth deflate Brentford and finally the way we controlled the game in the final phase even though the home side were doing everything in their power to try and get back into this memorable encounter.

It looked a tough start on paper and I thought if we had seven points from the first five games it would have been okay given the fixtures.

Well if we can do a job on Cardiff in two weeks’ time,we will have those seven points,then it is up the table we will be looking not down. For now let’s just enjoys this superb victory.
