Preston North End’s appeal to overturn keeper Jordan Pickford’s red card is expected to be heard tomorrow afternoon.
Pickford was sent off in the 31st minute of North End’s clash at Leeds United for an alleged handball and denying a clear goalscoring opportunity after he came out of his box to challenge on-running United striker Chris Wood.
Video replays suggest the ball hit Pickford on the chest near his shoulder, rather than his arm and the footage also shows that captain Tom Clarke and Paul Huntington were covering.
If the FA decide to overturn referee Gavin Ward’s decision then Pickford will not need to serve a one match ban and will be available for selection at Huddersfield on Boxing Day.
The club Tweeted: “The club have submitted a claim for the wrongful dismissal of Jordan Pickford for handball and denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.
“The appeal is expected to be heard tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday December 22.”
