Preston North End’s pre-season friendly game against Accrington Stanley has been cancelled.

The Lilywhites were due to visit the Crown Ground on Saturday, July 16, but Stanley are doing extensive work to the pitch which will not be completed in time.

Alternative venues had been looked at but a suitable one was not available.

A PNE spokesman said: “Both clubs have worked together to find an alternative venue for the game that was a suitable travelling distance for both sets of supporters.

“Unfortunately this has been an impossible task and therefore the game will no longer go ahead, we apologise for any disappointment.”

At this stage, North End have no plans to arrange a replacement game.

Simon Grayson’s side kick-off their friendly programme against Bamber Bridge at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Friday, July 8, then play at Chorley the following afternoon.

They play Oldham Athletic on Tuesday, July 19, before hosting Stoke City at Deepdale on Saturday, July 23.

PNE go to Morecambe on Tuesday, July 26, with the final friendly being against Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium on July 30.
