PNE Numbers: No middle ground for Preston North End

Preston North End have proved to be a tough nut to crack for the teams towards the top and bottom of the Championship but not so difficult for clubs in the division’s middle ground.

West Bromwich Albion completed the double over Alex Neil’s men in midweek but the Baggies remain the only side in the top eight to beat them.

After league leaders Albion, you’ve got to go down to Swansea in ninth place to find a side who have got the better of PNE this term, that a 3-2 win for the Welshman at the Liberty Stadium back in August.

At the other end of the table, North End have put sides to the sword.

They beat bottom club Luton 2-1 at Deepdale in December, while the Lilywhites have won home and away against Barnsley and Wigan who occupy the other relegation slots.

The blip in the stats at that end of the division are the results against 21st place Middlesbrough.

While PNE drew 1-1 at the Riverside Stadium, Boro won 2-0 at Deepdale on New Year’s Day.

North End did the double over Stoke in 20th place, likewise Charlton in 18th.

Huddersfield, who are in 19th spot, were beaten 3-1 here in November.

Against Hull in 17th, it was a 4-0 drubbing away but a 2-1 win at home.

Reading, in 16th, have done the double over North End, and 15th placed Derby beat them 1-0 at Pride Park.

PNE won at Birmingham in September, that their first away victory of the season but lost to Queens Park Rangers – currently 13th.

They beat 11th place Sheffield Wednesday, drew 0-0 at Cardiff, while Millwall in 10th have beaten them home and away.
