Preston North End’s kit in the 2013/14 season will feature a newly-designed badge.

It will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Invincibles’ exploits in winning the Football League and FA Cup in the 1888/89 campaign.

That was the first season of the Football League who are themselves holding a series of events to mark their anniversary - PNE’s home game against Wolves on the opening weekend of the season is one of six specially arranged anniversary fixtures.

North End’s badge, which will be used for the 2013/14 season before reverting back to the normal design, incorporates the traditional ‘PP’ crest.

It has the club’s name above the badge and the Invincibles anniversary underneath, and is to feature on all first-team and replica shirts.

A PNE spokesman said: “We wanted to incorporate the PP badge of the city within this very special season for the Football League and the club itself and also pay tribute to the Invincibles achievement.

“It makes this season’s kit a very special one in our history and we hope that Simon Grayson and the team can enjoy great success wearing it.”
