It was a bad day at the office for Preston North End as they went down to defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday.

Here are the player ratings for the North End squad:

PNE keeper Declan Rudd

PNE keeper Declan Rudd

Declan Rudd 4

The goalkeeper’s howler of a mistake for the home side’s first goal was a game-changer. Made a good double save after that.

Darnell Fisher 6

Decent enough game on his return to the side at right-back. Even had a sight of goal late in the first half, the keeper saving his shot.

PNE skipper Paul Huntington

PNE skipper Paul Huntington

Jordan Storey 7

Handled the aerial threat of Jutkiewicz well, especially in the first half. A good performance and my choice of starman.

Paul Huntington 6

The skipper is not as comfortable playing as the left-sided centre-back as he is on the right but put in plenty of effort on a tough afternoon.

Josh Earl 6

Was looking quite comfortable at left-back until injury forced him off at half-time. He was starting to benefit from a run of games.

Ryan Ledson 6

Stepped-in to replace Pearson in the holding midfield role. Won some tackles and got stuck in but Pearson’s drive was missed.

Paul Gallagher 6

Tried to get Preston on the front foot when they won possession but found the Blues midfield a solid object. A third 90 minutes in a week.

Tom Barkhuizen 6

With PNE largely on the back foot, the winger didn’t get too much chance to use his pace on the right side.

Brandon Barker 5

Showed the odd flash of pace but too often ran into traffic. Wasn’t a game when the North End front line shone.

Alan Browne 5

After two excellent performances, he didn’t reach the heights in this game and looked a bit off the pace.

Louis Moult 7

Put a shift in up front and had Preston’s best chance with an overhead kick which forced the keeper to tip over.

Subs used:

Andrew Hughes 6

Replaced Earl at the interval and hadn’t touched the ball when Birmiingham scored.

Lukas Nmecha 5

Came on at 2-0 and had one sight of goal, a shot he drove over the bar.

Graham Burke 5

Played the last 11 minutes in place of Browne and didn’t have time to make an impact.
