A few stats:

This is the Owls' 51st visit in the league, with a record of 9 wins, 14 draws and 27 defeats.

PNE have scored 92 goals to Wednesday's 50

North End have only lost one of the last 21 league games here, that by 0-2 in 2010/11. PNE have won 10, with 10 draws.

Both Paul Simpson Alex Neil had Wednesday as the opponents for their first games in charge and both were at Deepdale. Simpson oversaw a goalless draw in 2006 and Neil's side won 1-0 two years ago thanks to a Daniel Johnson penalty.

PNE's biggest home win is by 6-0 and this was achieved in successive seasons, 1953/4 and again in 1954/55.

It's 1-0 to PNE after 31 minutes. Sean Maguire is brought down by Moses Odubajo inside the area and referee points to the spot

Daniel Johnson fires hard and low to Kieran Westwood's left. The keeper gets a touch but can't keep it out.

So Preston lead 1-0 at the break courtesy of Johnson's penalty.

A quiet start to the match, PNE enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening 30 minutes while Wednesday arguably had the best chances through Steven Fletcher and Julian Borner.

The game sprung into life after the award of the penalty, with North End unlucky not to go 2-0 up when Borner almost scored an own goal following Sean Maguire's cross.

There were also shouts for another penalty when Barry Bannan looked to move his arm to Maguire's cross. The ball striking his albow...one for VAR??

HT: PNE 1, Wednesday 0

We are nearly 15 minutes into the second half and the score remains the same.

PNE looking the side more likely to score

Forestieri is on for the visitors, while Barkhuizen has replaced Bodin for PNE.

It's 2-0 and deja vu.

Maguire is brought down by Odubajo in the 65th minute and Johnson steps forward to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot

Five minutes earlier, Barkhuizen was denied by Westwood when through on goal but the angle was tight .

Wednesday are back in. 2-1...Fletcher heads home Reach's left-wing centre.

That goal has certainly come against the run of play.

A frantic final 15 minutes or so had ended with North End holding firm to register their third successive home win the Championship.
