Connor Simpson continued his fine form for Hyde United as two Preston North End loanees came up against each other on Saturday.

The towering front man scored his fifth goal in 10 appearances as the Tigers got the better of Hednesford United 2-0 in the NPL Premier Division.

Another Lilywhites youngster, Michael Howard, came on as a late substitute for the visitors.

Simpson opened the scoring six minutes from time as he continues to make the most of his first team opportunities in non-league football.

The 18-year-old’s only appearance for PNE since his January move from Hartlepool came as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa back in February.

Also on the loan front Ben Pringle started Grimsby’s 1-0 win over Crawley on Saturday, being replaced by former PNE favourite John Welsh late on.

Kevin O’Connor, in Crewe’s 3-2 win against Tranmere, and Mathew Hudson, for Bury in their 4-0 victory over Stevenage, were unused substitutes however elsewhere in League Two.

Up in Scotland, Andy Boyle is nearing a recovery from a knee injury after missing the last few games for Dundee who are currently bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
