PNE boss Alex Neil demands more goals from Callum Robinson

Robinson netted his sixth goal of the campaign in PNE’s 2-1 win at Queens Park Rangers and tried to claim a seventh when he followed an Alan Browne header over the line.

He was used as a striker at Loftus Road in the absence of Sean Maguire, who missed the trip to the capital because of a hamstring injury.

North End boss Neil said: “I thought Callum had a great second half on Saturday.

“He is a really dangerous player but has probably not got as many goals as he should have done.

“Callum should have more for how good his play can be.

“He is a young player who is getting better and has been a big part of what we have done here.”

Robinson’s goal at QPR was his first since netting against Sunderland last month.

He had a run in the No.9 role after Jordan Hugill’s sale but Maguire’s return saw him move back out wide.

When Maguire was forced to miss the QPR game, Neil chose Robinson to play up the middle rather than Louis Moult who was the alternative choice.

Maguire could return to the squad for Saturday’s clash with Norwich at Deepdale.

He felt his hamstring in the closing minutes of last week’s win over Leeds, Neil having used all his subs by then.

Having Maguire back would be a huge boost with PNE effectively needing three wins to force their way into the top six.

Elsewhere on the fitness front, Neil expects centre-half Paul Huntington to be fine for Saturday after getting a bang in the face at QPR.

Play was delayed in the second half when he was caught by keeper Matt Ingram.

In terms of his planning for the last couple of games, Neil admits the opposition’s team selection has taken him a bit by surprise.

QPR made five changes for PNE’s visit while the Leeds side had a different look.

Said Neil: “At QPR, I didn’t start with Paul Gallagher.

“I didn’t think he’d had his best game against Leeds and I was surprised by who QPR selected.

“I thought Josh Scowen and Luke Freeman might have played, they both have a lot of energy – I didn’t think that would have suited Gally.

“In the end their team was completely different. It was the same against Leeds.

“At this stage of the season when the sides you play don’t have a lot to play for, it can be tough in some respects.

“Normally they put out their strongest line-up but they are trailing things at the moment.

“It makes it a bit difficult to prepare for the games but you try and cover all eventualities.”
