Performance left me 'as mad as a hatter' - Supporter John Smith angered by Preston's latest loss

We had a couple of chances in the game’s opening stages but once the home side took the lead with their first meaningful attack of the game we never had another attempt on goal throughout the entire match despite having used a record five substitutions before the hour mark.

By this time, Luton were two up and shortly after we had made our final substitution added a third to put the game out of our reach.It was good viewing for the 2,000 privileged home fans on their return to the stadium but for our fans watching on ifollow the only saving grace to be taken from this display was that they did not have to travel and part with even more hard earned money to watch such an inept performance.

Unlike Watford who thrashed us in our last away outing, Luton did not have a squad packed with Premier League experience and to lose so convincingly, being out of the game with more than 20 minutes left to play is very worrying.

In past seasons under Alex Neil we have punched above our weight in what is an extremely competitive league but like some of his predecessors he has been hampered by the financial restraints put on him by the power- that-be in order to try and run the club as a viable business in terms of the signing of quality players.

Having lost key players like Greg Cunningham, Jordan Hugill and Callum Robinson over the years and with so many first team regulars seemingly happy to run down their contracts, the manager is in a very difficult position.

However in my opinion all three of Luton’s goals on Saturday could have been defended better and we have now conceded more goals than any other team in the division which is a very alarming statistic and illustrates that this is an area we desperately need to strengthen immediately.
