He is the longest serving player in the PNE squad having joined the club in July 2012.

In that time Huntington has made more than 230 appearances in a North End shirt, scoring 17 goals - including in the League One play-off final at Wembley in 2015.

The 30-year-old had recently entered the final 12 months of his contract and the new deal runs until the summer of 2021.

Huntington said: "I am delighted it has been done and now I can concentrate on the football.

"I have really enjoyed my first six years at this fantastic football club and I am looking to continue that – hopefully we can have another good season.

"You don’t tend to see players stay at clubs for a long time nowadays, but from the first year that I signed, I felt really comfortable here and I enjoy working with my team-mates and with the manager and staff.

"I feel they get not only the best out of me, but out of us as a group and moving forward that is important.

"I am grateful to the manager and the club for allowing me to sign a new contract and I will be looking to repay them, as I do each and every season."

Last season, Huntington started 44 of North End's 46 Championship matches.

Earlier in the summer Queens Park Rangers were linked with a move for Huntington but PNE were always confident of him signing a new deal and had no intention of selling him.
