Craig Morgan became the second player to leave Preston North End on transfer deadline day after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
The centre-half followed Iain Hume out of the Deepdale exit, Hume having joined Doncaster Rovers on loan until January 1.
Morgan, 27, had two years left on his contract, and the settlement ahead of the close of the transfer window will allow him to join another club on a free tranasfer at any point.
He joined North End from Peterborough United for £400,000 in July 2010, going on to make 58 appearances in a PNE shirt.
While he ended last season in the Preston team, Morgan was deemed surplus to requirement over the summer and has been training separately from the first-team squad.
