Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen became their third loan recruit in three days when he joined from Leicester City yesterday.

North End moved to sign the Dane after Declan Rudd suffered a knee injury during training on Tuesday.

With him out for a period of time, certainly well beyond this transfer window, PNE thought it wise to add another keeper to the squad.

Iversen, 23, follows Jayson Molumby and Ched Evans in the arrivals lounge.

The Lilywhites still have Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman in their sights.

They have had a bid turned down by Donny for him, as have Queens Park Rangers.

It is understood, though, that Deepdale is Whiteman’s preferred destination.

Patience might be needed on PNE’s part, there being no rush for tomorrow’s FA Cup trip to Wycombe Wanderers as Whiteman has played in the competition for Doncaster this season.

Of North End’s three new recruits, only Molumby is likely to be involved against the Chairboys.

Evans is cup-tied, while Iversen will have to be tested for Covid-19 and await the results before being allowed to meet his new team-mates.

So it could be that Connor Ripley plays in the third-round clash at Adams Park (3pm), with Mathew Hudson on the bench.

All clubs taking part in the FA Cup this weekend have had to test their squads.

Losing Rudd’s services is a blow, the keeper having been in good form this season.

He is thought to have suffered cartilage damage.

Iversen is a keeper who North End have scouted in the past.

Leicester were looking to loan him out for the second- half of the season, with him having spent the first half on loan with O-H Leuven in Belgium.

When Iversen was on loan with Rotherham last season, he worked for some of that time with PNE keeper coach Mike Pollitt.

North End boss Alex Neil had kept tight-lipped about Rudd’s injury during the week until the extent of it was known.

Neil said: “We knew there was something wrong but the extent of it wasn’t for everyone to see – it is now.

“We now know where we stand with it and it will put Declan out for a decent amount of time, hence the reason why we needed to cover that position off.

“For the good of this particular transfer, it was important we didn’t weaken our stance by making everyone aware .”
