“To get a goal is nice as well. It was a good night for us.

“It was a brilliant feeling to score, although I’d have rather taken the 2-0 into half time and made the second half a bit better but we got it over the line so all in all it was a good night.

“As a defender you want to keep a clean sheet so it would have been better with that but we’ll take the three points, especially in a derby and we’ll have the bragging rights.”

The Scot admitted that that sort of role was new to him and the rest of the PNE squad.

The 25-year-old thiks the performance may give Alex Neil something to think about now ahead of the Wartford game.

He said: “I don’t think they’d played many games with three at the back, I think that’s what the gaffer’s said, so I think it was an experience for most people in the team.

“We put in a good shift so maybe it gives the manager a headache for the next game in terms of what formation he’s going to choose.

“It was different, I don’t think I’ve ever played in the middle of a back three so it was a new experience.

“I really enjoyed it. The boys beside me helped me as well.

“I thought they played brilliantly.

“It was a brilliant defensive display.

“We limited them to minor chances, big Daniel pulled off a worldy save as well which helped us.

“It was a team effort and everyone was class to a man.

“It’s brilliant to have him, it just gives everyone confidence so there’s nothing better than that.

“He’s done it again tonight and basically got us the three points.

New to Deepdale, Lindsay was disappointed to get nothing from his first game at the club against Rotherham United last weekend.

Now having his first win under his belt, and the first win of this group as of the end of the transfer window, the former Barnsley man feels it can help the whole squad progress.

He said: “It’s been brilliant. I would have liked to have had three points, or any points, from my first game but it wasn’t to be.

“I’ll take three points in a derby any day.

“It’s a brilliant dressing room, since I came in, they’ve been so welcoming.

“Wins will help us settle, coming in you always want to try and prove yourself to the players.

“Wins like that just help, they help everyone around the club.

“It’s a new bunch and I think that will do wonders for us but it’s only one win and we need to look to Tuesday now to build on that."
