The 26-year-old striker started in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City but failed to add to his tally of two for the campaign so far.

Stockley did have a hand in North End’s goal though, nodding the ball on to Sean Maguire in the build up, with Daniel Johnson finishing off the move.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot to contribute to this team and this club and it’s a case of trying to be as good as I can and as effective as I can when I do get the minutes,” Stockley said.

“I’ve got great personal belief that it is going to be a real success here for me so when I do get on the pitch I need to perform.

“I do put that pressure on myself as well.

“I’ve got to do my best and when the ball comes it’s got to stick.

“I’ve got to have personal standards and when the ball does come I have to look after it and bring others into play.

“When the ball was coming forward with quality I think I did that and gave people the ball in good areas and got our forward players forward facing and into the box.

“An example being the goal. It’s something that we’ve worked on and it’s down to us to find that formula that provides us with a little bit of momentum.

“I feel good, I feel really fit. I’ve looked after myself so I’m there whenever I’m called upon.”

When Stockley is selected there is inevitably a change of approach for PNE, looking to send crosses in rather than play through the lines as much.

“We worked on it,” Preston’s no.20 said.

“It’s a difficult one, when I came into the team the gaffer drummed that message in to get as many crosses in as possible.

“The instructions were there to do so.

“Sometimes it can be a bit different to what we’re used to but with the type of player that I am, to get quality crosses into the box all the time is something that I’m confident will get the best out of me.

“It was difficult at times but I thought the game was so nip and tuck that there was enough for us to get all three points and we should have done enough to at least have got something out of the game.”
