Dave Seddon gives his verdict on the performances of North End players in their 3-0 defeat at Ipswich.

Chris Maxwell 5

Not his best afternoon in the Preston keeper’s jersey. Stepped behind his wall at the last
moment to leave a gap for the first goal.

Darnell Fisher 6

Lasted 37 minutes before being hit by PNE’s injury curse and suffering a groin strain. Had been steady until then.

Paul Huntington 6

The skipper returned from a ban to lead a defence which was relatively solid until the stroke of half-time but then got undone.

Andy Boyle 6

Helped keep Garner relatively quiet but the threat came from Waghorn and McGoldrick. Steady enough game.

Kevin O’Connor 6

Got forward quite often down the left and clearly likes to attack. In the second half got a bit exposed when Ipswich played on the break.

John Welsh 5

Brought in to play in front of the back four and give some solidity. He was doing that until conceding the free-kick for the first goal.

Tom Barkhuizen 6

Involved in a few of Preston’s better attacking moments and his pace will always worry defences.

Ben Pearson 7

North End’s best player on a disappointing day but did tarnish his display with a daft yellow card for dissent late on.

Alan Browne 6

Plenty of energy and running in midfield and tried to push forward but did not hit the heights of earlier performances.

Daniel Johnson 6

Went closest to scoring for Preston with a shot which hit the bar. Maybe a bit unfortunate to be hooked just after the hour.

Jordan Hugill 6

Usual busy shift, set up Pearson’s early chance and had a couple himself later in the game. Got a yellow card which sees him suspended.

Subs used:

Marnick Vermijl 5

Was a first-half replacement for the injured Fisher. The Belgian was beaten too easily in the air by McGoldrick for Ipswich’s second goal.

Josh Harrop 6

Came on in the 63rd minute to take DJ’s place on the left-hand side of midfield. Put in a decent cross for a late Hugill chance.

Paul Gallagher 6

Played the last 20 minutes in place of Welsh. Showed he can still put in a quality delivery.

Subs not used: Daryl Horgan, Stephy Mavididi, Callum
Robinson, Mathew Hudson.

IPSWICH TOWN: Bialowski, Spence, Chambers, Webster, Jonas, Skuse (Bru 31), Connolly (Kenlock 66), Waghorn (Nydam 77), McGoldrick, Celina, Garner. Subs (not used): Iorfa, Ward, Sears, Gerken.

REFEREE: Andrew Madley 6
