Preston put four goals past near neighbours Wigan as Alex Neil’s side won for the first time in the league since the opening day of the season on Saturday.
The 4-0 scoreline could have been greater, North End dominating the second half after Darron Gibson saw red for the visitors.
Alex Neil’s side went no closer than when Alan Browne’s shot came back off the underside of the crossbar and hit the line.
To all in the ground it looked close to being in and North End revealed post-match that goalline technology showed the Irishman’s effort was just 3.68mm away from being awarded.
The score was 1-0 at the time with Tom Barkhuizen having opened the scoring.
Browne hit the bar on 49 minutes with Callum Robinson doubling PNE’s advantage just two minutes later.
Robinson scored a second with the last kick of the game after Paul Gallagher had bagged North End’s third from the penalty spot.
