Two second half goals gave Fulham the spoils, first David Nugent headed into his own net from a corner and then in the dying moments of the game Aboubakar Kamara doubled the Cottagers' lead.

The Fulham boss was complimentary of the visitors and thought his side got a result against a tricky opponent.

"I thought they were very good," the 39-year-old said, "they’ve had a fantastic season, they’re a good side that causes us problems.

"They get the ball down and play and they mix their game up. It was a tough battle which we knew we would have, a physical battle.

"It’s a big three points for us."

The scoreline could be seen as an unfair reflection of the game, with PNE having the better chances in the first half before Fulham took more control after their goal.

Parker felt his side did well to repel PNE's early advances on their goal.

He said: "The first 20 minutes we had to weather a bit of a storm, to be honest.

"Preston had a day extra in their recovery, they played Tuesday night, I felt that at the start of the game they put pressure on us.

"We weathered that storm. They had the best of it. The longer the first half went on I felt we were growing into it. We got the ball down and we cut through them at times.

"At half time and coming into the second half I felt that one goal was going to decide the game and whoever got the first goal was going to be crucial.

"It was a typical Championship game in that sense and we managed to get that.

"After that goal I always felt we were in the ascendancy.

"They put some more bodies up to the top end of the pitch and they went more direct and again we defended our box very well.

"We managed to hit them on the counter and kill the game off."
