Ex-Preston North End man tipped for shock managerial return, Aston Villa battle West Ham for £10m-rated ace

Preston North End battled hard to pick up a point against Bournemouth last weekend, as Daniel Johnson's second-half goal saw his side come back to secure a 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

Speaking after the game, Lilywhites boss Alex Neil criticised his side for their sedate start against the Cherries, and contended: "To be honest what annoyed me the most in the first half was that what we did was not how we set out to go about it.

“We had set up to go right up against Bournemouth, be aggressive, get in their faces. When you apply pressure like that you need your defence to have a high line so that the midfield isn’t covering three-quarters of the pitch trying to get to someone.

“If you line is really high, you are within touching distance of the opposition and you can make up ground no problem. The moment your defence drops as deep as it did, you can’t apply pressure.”

Next up, Preston travel to take on rock-bottom of the table Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, which should provide an ideal opportunity for Neil's side to continue moving towards the top-half of the table.

Here are today's biggest transfer stories and the latest team news involving Preston North End and the rest of the Championship, as the build-up to the upcoming weekend's action begins:
