Will Keane has hit the goal trail at Manchester United after cutting short his loan spell with Preston North End.
Keane scored twice for United’s Under-21s on Monday night in a 4-0 win against Southampton at Leigh Sports Village.
That took his tally to five goals in the last two matches with the Red Devils’ second string since his return to Old Trafford.
The striker netted a hat-trick seven days earlier in a 3-1 win at Reading Under-21s, after asking to cut short a season-long loan at Deepdale in a bid to make an impression on United boss Louis van Gaal.
Winger Adnan Januzaj also scored twice against Southampton in his first appearance in a United shirt since his Borussia Dortmund loan was cut short.
The 20-year-old, who returned to England after just 12 appearances and only three starts, opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a deflected 20-yard shot.
He also won the penalty from which Keane scored his second of the night, before his team-mate repaid the favour by providing the assist for the Belgian to smash home in the 79th minute.
Januzaj was withdrawn shortly afterwards.
United’s next game at the Leigh venue is on Monday, January 25, when Sunderland are the visitors, while the derby clash with Manchester City – originally scheduled for three days before Christmas – is now on February 11, again at Leigh Sports Village.
