The transfer window will open fully in just under two weeks, although clubs have been able to make signings of players whose contracts have expired they cannot, and will continue to be unable to, register them and use them in this campaign.

A statement from the EFL read: "The EFL has today confirmed the opening and closing dates for the 2020 summer transfer window.

"Subject to formal ratification, the transfer window will open fully on Monday 27 July, although any player registered before the completion of the 2019/20 season will not be eligible to play for their new Club until season 2020/21 commences. This is applicable to Clubs involved in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.

"The window for international registrations closes at 11pm on Monday 5 October, with an agreement in place with the Premier League for an extended two-week domestic only window which will close at 5pm on Friday 16 October."

The window will be open in total for 10 weeks, although the Premier League's lasts 12 weeks if you include domestic only deals that can be made after the window is partially closed.

This now means that clubs could potentially start to make plans with how they go about their business this summer, although a lot of that for some may depend on where they're playing their football, for example a club like Preston North End who may yet make the play-offs and be promoted.

It does however mean that the window will be open fully during the season again, something which was expected to return anyway due to English clubs feeling they had a disadvantage over the rest of Europe by being unable to make deals for as long as they could.

The new EFL season begins on August 29, meaning there will be around six weeks where clubs could play and make moves in the market.
