Veteran striker Kevin Davies has left Preston North End.
The 38-year-old has spent the past two years at Deepdale, but has not been offered a new deal to remain at the club.
Davies tweeted: “After waiting for @pnefc for 5 weeks just been told no offer. Obviously disappointed, great 2 years. New challenge required, I’m available.”
It had been understood that Davies had held discussions about a possible player-coach role, but the club have decided they are not able to offer him a new deal due to budgetary restraints.
A club statement said: “Kevin joined us from Bolton Wanderers two years ago and his contribution both on and off the pitch over the last two seasons has been outstanding and his playing and leadership skills played a major part in us regaining our Championship status.
“The current decision not to extend Kevin’s contract has been driven solely by budgetary constraints and we sincerely believe that Kevin can continue to contribute on the field if that is a route that he decides to pursue.
“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Kevin and his family for his contribution to Preston North End Football Club.”
