The midfielder is due back at Euxton as preparations intensify for Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Johnson won his first two caps for Jamaica in the double header with Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

The second of those games on Tuesday evening saw DJ score a wonderful goal in a 2-1 victory.

He curled a left-foot finish into the top corner of the net from 25 yards, a fine way to open his account for the Reggae Boyz.

His goal six minutes before half-time brought Jamaica level and they went on to score again in the second half.

Johnson was partnered in midfield by Ravel Morrison, the former Manchester United player who now plays for Dutch club ADO Den Haag.

The 28-year-old is the fifth player to be capped by Jamaica while with PNE.

He follows in the footsteps of Ricardo Fuller, Claude Davis, Keammar Daley and Chris Humphrey.

Fuller won a number of caps during his two years with North End, and in total played 77 times for his country.

Centre-half Davis was in the same era, like Fuller he was signed by Craig Brown when the Scot was in charge at Deepdale.

Although Omar Daley was at PNE around the same time, he didn’t win any of his caps during his time at the club.

Keammar Daley did however, during his short time with the club under Phil Brown’s stewardship.

More recently, Humphrey played for Jamaica during his time with PNE.

The winger, who is now manager of Kendal Town, featured in the Jamaica squad for the Gold Cup in 2015.

While Johnson’s trip to Saudi was not exactly a hop, skip and a jump, it was shorter than some international trips.

In September 2019, he had to turn down the chance to join the Jamaica squad for games in the CONCACAF region due to travel arrangements which would have meant him having to make three changes instead of flying direct.

North End will be banking on Johnson arriving back in good shape ahead of a busy run of Championship games.

They are without Alan Browne and possibly still Ben Pearson, from their midfield, for Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

So they’ll want Johnson’s creativity and experience available as they search for a first home win.
