Clarets midfielder Jones out to beat former club Preston

But he is determined to send Burnley's Lancashire rivals home empty handed.

Jones spent the first half of the 2005/06 season on loan at Deepdale from Manchester United, scoring three goals in 25 appearances, playing in a goal-less draw with the Clarets.

Preston, under Billy Davies, went on to finish in the play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten 3-1 on aggregate by Leeds United.

North End couldn't make the jump to the Premier League and were beaten there by Burnley and Blackpool, before Preston were relegated to the Championship in 2011.

Tomorrow sees the first league meeting between the sides since “I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s a few years since they played each other in the league.

“It will be good for the fans, we’re looking forward to it and it should be a good occasion at Turf Moor.

“There’s not a lot of distance between the two places. I’m sure the fans will be up for it and as players we’re looking to improve on last week’s performance and get a victory."

And he looked back on his time at Deepdale: “They had a good manager and good players at the club and it was around they time they were hitting play-offs consistently in the Championship and were unfortunate not to get in the Premier League a few times.

“It was a great first loan move for me from Manchester United.

“I really enjoyed it and it was a really good club and still is.

“It’s good to see them back in the Championship with a good fan base. They’re going to be difficult for us on Saturday, they’re going to have a team spirit because they came up last year, they’ve got a very good manager and it will be a good test for us. We’ve got to definitely match them and go beyond that with our quality."

The goal-less draw Jones played in at Deepdale was a rare uneventful meeting in a rivalry which often throws up goals and red cards, and he added: “I’ve seen on Sky Sports on Football Gold there have been a couple of these games with plenty of goals.

“They were quite feisty.

“Blackburn were in the Premier League then so it was the main derby."

Burnley go into the game unbeaten in nine, but having drawn their last three, so are they under pressure to get a win under their belts? “I don’t think extra pressure. Over the last three games we think we should have taken more points.

“It will be a good one to approach as we normally do, we’re preparing well and the team’s looking good and we’ll be ready to go on Saturday.

“It was a strange game at Cardiff. I thought we still had the better of the clear-cut chances and we were unfortunate in the first half to not get in front.

“Cardiff made it difficult with their set pieces and that was the case.

“But we showed what we’re about and although it wasn’t the best performance generally we just stuck in there to the end and got a point and got out of there.

“It was just pleasing to get something.

“We just keep going all the time, the manager has instilled that in us.

“It comes out a lot as you’ve seen a number of times now.

“We haven’t won in the last three games but in terms of keeping momentum going in the good run that we’ve been on it’s important to pick up the draws and the points at the end of the season will tally up.

“We feel we’re in a good place mentally as a squad. Even though we haven’t won the last three games it still keeps momentum going and hopefully now, looking at Saturday, it’s a good game for us. We’re preparing well, looking forward to it and hopefully put in a good performance and see if the result takes care of itself after our performance."
