Nathaniel Mendez-Laing restored the Bluebirds' lead before Robert Glatzel finished off the scoring.

Neil Harris was surprised with PNE's approach to the game but felt his side went on to call the shots in the majority of proceedings.

He said: "They surprised us a little bit with the formation because it's normally a 4-2-3-1 and today they went with a 4-1-4-1 and matched us up in midfield.

"That did catch us a little bit by surprise but man for man i thought we dominated the majority of the game. Stockley coming in was a bit of a surprise as well however I felt we dealt with him for the majority of it quite well.

"It's a tough league Preston caught us today on a real high, on seven points from three games - three games spread over a long period of time - but with a settled side.

"Today they caught us on a real high from last week and we were almost at our best today."

In the reverse fixture, Cardiff were lucky to come away with a point in a goalless contest in the Welsh capital, Harris felt his side were outclassed that day but the opposite was the case at Deepdale.

"I watched the game back from midweek, from the Cardiff City Stadium and Preston were better than us in that game," he said.

"There weren't a huge amount of chances in it, we certainly didn't create much. Preston's chances came on the counter attack, like today.

"However around first contacts and second balls and passages of play Preston were better than us. Today I thought we were far better than Preston so we have improved but there's still a long way to go for us."
