Behind closed doors football continues for Preston North End

Preston North End will continue to play behind closed doors at Deepdale after confirmation from the Government that Lancashire would remain in tier 3.

The Lilywhites last had fans inside Deepdale way back on March 7 and the turnstiles had stayed padlocked since.

Elite sports stadiums in tier 3 areas are not allowed to let supporters in.

There are two more home games for North End before the next Government review of the tiers, those being against Bristol City on Friday night and Coventry City's visit on December 29.

They also play Nottingham Forest on January 2 after the next review, but any changes wouldn't come into affect in time for that game.

PNE's Boxing Day clash with Derby County at Pride Park will also be played behind closed doors as Derby is in tier 3.

Last week, Alex Neil's men played in front of 2,000 fans against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, with Bedfordshire being in tier 2 at the time.

It was a case of just in time as far as Luton were concerned, with the area moved into tier 3 by the Government on Thursday.
