Cunningham shot saved

Maguire nicks the ball high up, plays Emil Riis down the right side of the box and the Dane returns the favour but it’s behind his strike partner.

Whiteman is in the right place at the edge of the box but it’s deflected just wide.

There will be four more minutes added onto the end of the first half.

McCann bends it past the post

A long throw ends up at the far post and the ball is laid into the path of McCann who looks to bend it into the corner but doesn’t get enough of it.

North End take a comfortable lead into the break having been the better side.

Andrew Hughes opened the scoring, heading home a Ben Whiteman corner.

Joe Rafferty doubled PNE’s lead, benefitting from a lack of clearance after an excellent Greg Cunningham cross from the left.

There have been casualties for the Lilywhites, both Connor Wickham and Liam Lindsay both having to go off injured.
