LIVE: PNE vs Birmingham City

Half a chance for the Blues...

Birmingham have their first meaningful attack of the afternoon, a cross from the right goes deep to the far post at Jutkiewicz challenges, it falls to his feet too and it’s just about blocked from close range.

Greg Cunningham sends in a lovely cross on the volley for Emil Riis at the far post who nods at goal but it is comfortable for Etheridge.

Cunnigham bursts into the area and goes down under pressure from a retreating defender but the referee waves away the appeals.

Evans looks to release Brad Potts in behind and Etheridge is out 35 yards to head the ball clear, Browne chrges after it and shoots first time but his effort towards an empty goal is wide.

Riis header blocked

Whiteman clips in a free kick from the left, Birmingham win the initial header but Riis is there to head towards goal on the second ball and it’s then headed away just short of the line.

Patrick Bauer puts PNE ahead!

Whiteman’s corner from the left is punched away and it lands to Alan Browne on the edge of the box who takes a touch and drives it low at goal and as Patrick Bauer exits the area it clips the defender’s feet and into the net - though it was likely going in anyway!

Gardner volleys over

Bela’s corner is aimed at Gardner just away from the pack in the box and his first time volley is over the bar.

One more minute added on

There will be one more minute added on at the end of the first half.

Half Time: PNE 1-0 Birmingham City

North End take a slender lead into the break and are good value for their advantage.

The Lilywhites took the lead just after half an hour, Whiteman’s corner headed out to Alan Browne on the egde of the box who returned it on the volley but on its way through it clipped Patrick Bauer, giving the German the honour of opening the scoring.

Both sets of players are back out for the second half.
