LIVE: Man City vs PNE

Last updated: Tuesday, 27 July, 2021, 19:47

Pozo beats Ledson but the midfielder gets back.

City take the kick short.

It’s been an even contest as we approach 15 minutes in this game and neither side have created many clear cut chances.

Knight is played in behind but his shot is saved by Ripley as the PNE keeper comes out to close down the angle.

Potts drags an effort wide

Brad Potts has a little room on the left side of the area but drags his shot wide of the near post.

Goal Man City. 1-0.

Riyad Mahrez nestles a wonderful free kick over the wall and into the top corner from the right side.

The ball presents itself to Rogers around 25 yards out but his shot is deflected and Ripley saves low down.

Ledson latches onto a loose ball but his half volley doesn’t have the right connection and Steffen saves.

Barkhuizen shows he’s a threat

Potts lofts a ball over the top for Barkhuizen who takes it in his stride but City keeper Steffen is out 35 yards to make an important tackle.

Mahrez plays a wonderful ball top the far post cutting in from the right to find the run of Mendy who cushions a header back to Palmer but he cant stay over the shot just 12 yards out.

Half Time: Man City 1-0 PNE

An even game so far but the two sides are separated by a moment of brilliance from Riyad Mahrez.

City have looked the more threatening side enjoying more of the possession without testing Conor Ripley too much.

Mahrez however proved to be the difference, his 25 yard free kick curling up and over the wall and back down into the back of the net.

North End otherwise have been limited to efforts from range.
