PNE's matchwinner Callum Robinson is congratulated by Sean Maguire

The Lilywhites' 1-0 win was a fifth victory on the bounce at Ashton Gate stretching back to 2014, the Robins' home ground very much a happy hunting ground.

Importantly, it was a first win on the road in the league this season for Neil's outfit and lifted them up to 18th place.

Callum Robinson's close-range finish 10 minutes before the interval was enough to deliver the three points.

Preston midfielder Ben Pearson challenges against Bristol City

Neil said: "It was a pleasing performance, probably the perfect away performance.

"In the first half although we were leading 1-0 I thought we had opportunities to be two or three goals up and should have done a bit better at times.

"But that is us seven-games unbeaten now and this is a really difficult place to come, Bristol City are a good side.

"I thought we thoroughly deserved the win, defensively we were solid and we carried a threat going forward.

"To be honest I'm really pleased with everyone, I thought they all did their jobs."

Robinson was on the end of a Preston counter-attack to find the net for the ninth time this season.

He was playing against a City side for who he had an unhappy four-month loan spell with in 2016.

Neil said: "We had quite a few counter-attacks in the first half and didn't make the best use of some of them but it was nice to see Callum put that chance away.

"Callum is such a good player, he has improved considerably in the last year.

"It was a good afternoon for us, to go through seven games and not pick-up a defeat in this league is no mean feat for any team."
