A young Preston North End side beat Northern League side Ashington in a friendly at Woodhorn Lane on Wednesday night.
Jack Ryan scored the game’s only goal, the striker meeting a cross from substitute Sean Whelan to turn and shoot home in the 62nd minute.
Ryan was one of four young professionals to feature in the Lilywhites side – skipper Ben Davies, Nick Anderton and goalkeeper Steven James the others.
The rest of the squad was made up of youth team players.
Ashington are managed by former England Test cricketer Steve Harmison and a guest on the home bench was his former team-mate Andrew Flintoff, there to film a feature for his television programme Lord of the Fries.
Flintoff was named as an Ashington substitute but did not make it on to the pitch.
North End complete their pre-season friendly programme against Bury at Gigg Lane on Saturday, Simon Grayson set to send a full-strength squad to face the Shakers.
