Preston North End have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Liam Grimshaw.
The 20-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee, penning a two-and-a-half year contract.
But the Burnley-born player will be unavailable for the next few weeks due to a knee injury - Grimshaw is to undergo minor surgery after the medical he underwent before the transfer showed up the injury which needs attention.
North End are happy to take a long-term view of things though, making sure they secure Grimshaw’s services now and allowing him to get the operation done.
Having come through the youth ranks at United, Grimshaw spent the first-half of this season on loan for Motherwell, making 16 appearances.
That loan was cut-short last week so to allow him to open negotiations with North End.
PNE boss Simon Grayson said: “We know a lot about Liam.
“He is another player who is not coming in cold, he is coming in from Manchester United but he has had three or four months playing up in the SPL with Motherwell and has done very well.
“He is a very versatile player, can play at right back, he can play on the right side of a three and he can play in midfield.
“Liam likes a tackle, has a lot of energy about him and has a good pedigree, because of where he is coming from.”
