PNE midfielder is adjusting to the Championship at North End

The attacking midfielder was on target in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland, his fourth start in the last five games.

His performance in the second half against the Black Cats was probably his best to date in North End colours.

The Championship does offer a big challenge to those not used to the intensity, the variation in playing styles and the Saturday-Tuesday pattern of matches.

Harrop told the Post: “I’m settling in and getting used to the Championship.

“It’s all about adjusting and getting used to the styles of play – every game is different in that respect.

“Before coming here, I’d never played more than one game a week, so being ready for a quick turnaround has been a big thing.

“I’ll keep adjusting and keep working hard so that I can impress the manager.”

Harrop offers versatility to North End manager Alex Neil in that he can play a variety of attacking midfield roles.

He has played in the No.10 role behind the striker and on the left-hand side.

That is key for Neil who likes to have options for the three attacking support roles behind Jordan Hugill.

Said Harrop: “I can across that top three – on the left or right of midfield, or as a No.10.

“Wherever the manager chooses to play me, I will give it my best shot.

“It has been nice to get a couple of goals from free-kicks lately and hopefully there will be more goals to come.”

The current international break provides a chance to draw breath ahead of the next block of matches.

With 20 points on the board from the first 11 games, it has been a pleasing start for Harrop and his team-mates.

“I would say it has been a good start,” said Harrop.

“We are doing well, we are confident and we have to make sure we keep going.

“It is a good group of lads here, a good bunch, we all know each other’s roles.

“We are a young squad in the main and we are learning about finding different ways to win matches.

“As we do that, we can get better and there is more to come from us.”

Meanwhile, PNE’s home game against Aston Villa on Wednesday, November 1, is to be shown live on Sky.

North End are holding a fans’ forum at Deepdale on Monday, October 23 (6.30pm).

Alex Neil, chief executive John Kay and members of the club’s senior management will be on the top table to answer questions from supporters.
