A legendary Preston North End XI will be aiming to claim the bragging rights in just under a couple of weeks’ time when they take on arch derby rivals Blackpool in a charity match.
The clash – which will feature some of PNE’s most popular players of the recent past – is being staged at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium – home of non-league outfit Bamber Bridge – on Sunday, October 11, kick-off 2pm.
North End old boys who are scheduled to play include David Lucas, Youl Mawene, Ian Bryson, Lee Ashcroft, Lee Cartwright, Chris Lucketti, Lenny Johnrose, Barry Nicholson, Brian O’Neil, Graeme Atkinson, Matty Hill, Sean Gregan, John Macken and Paul McKenna .
The Blackpool team managed by Derek Spence is expected to field a team which includes Danny Coid, Brian Butler, Greg Strong, Trevor Sinclair, Gareth Evans, David Eyres, Garry Taylor-Fletcher, Stephen Crainey, Scott Taylor, Matt Lawler and Jamie Milligan.
All proceeds from the event will go to PNE manager Simon Grayson’s prostate cancer campaign. It is hoped the PNE boss – who has also managed the Tangerines – will attend the event and could even pass on a few coaching tips to North End’s former stars.
Deepdale legend George Ross will lead out the PNE team, while Mark Lawrenson is also expected to attend.
Entry will be by ticket only at a cost of £5 per adult. Children go free if accompanied by an adult.
