Preston North End have been drawn away to League One outfit Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The draw was seeded and regionalised and the Lilywhites will visit Gresty Road in the week beginning August 10, after the opening weekend of the season.

North End have met Crewe twice before in this competition.

They beat the Railwaymen 3-2 at Deepdale in August 2011 and 2-0 in 1967.

Last season in League One, a Jermaine Beckford equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at Gresty Road, with PNE winning 5-1 at home in March, Joe Garner scoring four and Beckford completing the scoring.

Elsewhere in the first round draw, Morecambe landed a home tie with Sheffield United, while Blackburn Rovers will host Shrewsbury Town.

Accrington Stanley host Hull City - relegated from the Premier League last month - at the Crown Ground, Blackpool go to Northampton and Burnley visit Port Vale.
