Preston North End defender Bailey Wright could be heading to the World Cup with Australia.
The 21-year-old will be officially named on Wednesday morning in the Socceroos provisional 30-man squad for the finals.
It is a shock call-up for Wright who has not represented Australia since Under-17s level.
Wright told PNE’s official website: “It hasn’t really hit me yet to be honest.
“Obviously it is something I am very proud of, I wasn’t really expecting it.
“But at the minute I have got this game on Thursday to concentrate on and that is my main priority, at the same time I am obviously buzzing about the call up.
“I have spoken with all the family back home and they are just as shocked as me really.”
Wright joined North End as a youth team player in 2009 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in the PNE first-team since making his debut in August 2010.
He will be looking for an impressive performance against Rotherham in Thursday’s play-off second leg in a bid to help his international cause.
The Aussie squad will be cut from 30 to 27 at the end of May, and then down to 23 by June 2.
They are in a tough World Cup group with Spain, Holland and Chile.
