Preston North End boss Simon Grayson hopes to complete his latest piece of transfer business on Monday with the permanent signing of Manchester United midfielder Liam Grimshaw.
If the deal goes through, it will be the fifth incoming deal done by PNE in the January window.
Sam Johnstone and Callum Robinson joined on loan earlier in the month, while Adam Reach’s loan from Middlesbrough was extended.
Last week, Ben Pearson signed for North End in a £300,000 switch from Manchester United.
Burnley-born Grimshaw has been with United since he was a schoolboy.
He spent the first half of the season on loan with Motherwell, making 16 appearances for the Scottish club in a four-month stay.
Motherwell had been in negotitations to sign Grimshaw permanently when North End made their move last week.
Grimshaw, 20, can play both in midfield and defence.
