The Lilywhites face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road today (3pm) still looking for their first Championship points of the campaign.

Before the transfer deadline at the end of the month, PNE boss Grayson is aiming to bring in a striker – to replace the Rangers-bound Joe Garner – a right-back and a winger.

In terms of recruitment, he does not think league position will be much of an issue.

Grayson said: “I think players will see the bigger picture, we didn’t have the best of starts last year but still finished 11th.

“We would liked to have put points on the board by now and performances have warranted that.

“When you speak to players, they want to come here because it is a good club, the spirit among the players is excellent and they enjoy coming into work.

“That word gets around in football. Just because we have lost the first three games, doesn’t mean we are not playing okay, doesn’t mean to say it is not a good club and environment and doesn’t mean it is not progressing because it certainly is.”

Garner’s move to Rangers is nearly done, with him likely to be in the Ibrox crowd to watch their game with Motherwell this afternoon.

The striker was in Glasgow yesterday for a medical at their training ground and to finalise personal terms – he will sign a three-year contract.

It has to be said that the deal had started to drag out, Preston having given Garner permission to talk to Rangers as early as Tuesday.

Garner’s move and the knee injury suffered by Calum Woods, have put PNE back into the transfer market with the deadline on August 31.

Said Grayson: “Different circumstances change your mind about how you need to improve your squad.

“Joe going and Calum’s injury have dictated things.”
