Southport and Wrexham drew their first round FA Trophy tie 1-1, a result neither team wanted in view of the seasonal fixture backlog.
In a scrappy first half, the Robins took the lead in the 15th minute when Manny Smith’s far-post header eluded keeper Raya Martin.
Smith nearly scored at the other end as the interval beckoned but John Flat managed to push his sliced clearance for a corner.
The equaliser came in the 65th minute. A free-kick by David Fitzpatrick was beaten out and Andy Mitchell blasted the rebound into the net from 25 yards.
The Sandgrounders stormed the visitors’ goal as the 90 minutes approached but they could not find that final touch so now have to travel to Wrexham tomorrow for the replay.
Elsewhere in the Trophy, AFC Fylde eased into the next round thanks to a 3-0 victory over fellow Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity.
Two goals from Danny Rowe, either side of Danny Lloyd’s excellent solo strike, secured the result.
In the NPL First Division North, Bamber Bridge went down 2-1 at home to Darlington 1883.
Alistair Waddecar gave Brig a third-minute lead but Graeme Armstrong (15) levelled and Amar Purewal (41) earned the points for the visitors.
Burscough ran out 2-1 winners at home to Brighouse Town. Phil Quirk (69, 81) got the goals, with Leon Henry (59) replying.
Lancaster City went down 2-1 at home to Scarborough Athletic.
Alex Peterson gave Boro a second-minute lead but the Dolly Blues must have thought they had earned a point when Sam Bailey levelled with 11 minutes to go.
But three minutes from time, Ryan Williams ended Lancaster’s hopes.
Clitheroe’s home game against Farsley AFC was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
