AFC Fylde will give another run-out to ex-Morecambe FC midfielder Joe McGee when they play the latest in their pre-season series of friendlies at Nantwich Town tomorrow.
McGee made a handful of appearances for Morecambe, but suffered a serious cruciate knee injury, which put him out of action for several months – he was released in the summer of 2014.
Last season, McGee played a few games for Buxton and he has also been involved in pre-season with Halifax, before linking up with Fylde.
Coasters boss Dave Challinor gave McGee a run-out in the 3-2 midweek win over Bamber Bridge and plans to run the rule over him against the Dabbers tomorrow.
It is too early for AFC Fylde to make a commitment but Challinor was pleased with how he performed against Brig.
He said: “He will play again on Saturday – at this stage Joe really needs games to make himself fit.”
With the National League North season kicking off two weeks’ tomorrow, Challinor is making important changes to preparation, starting with the Nantwich fixtture.
He said: “We were excellent in the first half against Bamber Bridge and played some fantastic football but we were not able to take it on in the second half and I was disappointed with that.
“Maybe that had something to do with the changes that we made.
“For tomorrow’s match we will be taking fewer players and making fewer changes.
“We are trying to taper everything with that first league match of the season in mind.
“We will be using the game to work on things like our set-pieces and making sure that the players get important game-time.”
Challinor is still exploring options in the transfer market, though that is not a priority.
He said: “This is the time of year when players become available, sometimes because they find that they are not wanted by the bigger clubs.
“I am in no mad rush to sign anyone else, though you never know who becomes available, and there is also the loan market.
“But if we got into the new season with the squad we have at the moment, then I would be happy.”
Elsewhere on the friendly front, Chorley continue their pre-season preparations with a visit to Euxton Villa tomorrow.
Matt Jansen’s men were beaten 3-1 by Barrow at Victory Park on Wednesday.
Admission to the Euxton game is £3, with Under-16s going free of charge.
Bamber Bridge make the trip to Yorkshire to take on North West Counties side Silsden, while Southport host Everton Under-21s.
