Southport go in search of three much-needed points this evening when they host Wrexham.

The Sandgrounders are in a perilous position in the Conference Premier, just two points above the relegation zone. Having picked up just one win from their previous 10 league games, Port are in very real danger of being sucked into the bottom four of the division.

They were thumped 4-1 by Hereford United at Edgar Street on Saturday and new boss John Coleman knows he faces a severe test of his managerial credentials to preserve the club’s status in the top flight of non-league football.

He said: “We are conceding some very sloppy goals at the moment. As a unit we are not defending properly and that is something we need to address.

“We came in at half-time 1-0 down on Saturday but I thought we were comfortably the better team. But in the second half, we never got out of the dressing room and gifted them two goals.

“We can go one or two ways now. We can curl into a little ball and die or we can come out fighting – I know which I’m going to do. There are still plenty of points to play for.”
